Screen Capture Video

Screen Capture Video

Screen capture video is just that – a video of your computer screen.  It is perhaps the most common technology used in Flipped teaching.

Ok – let’s be honest.  That – a video of a screen – sounds incredibly boring, doesn’t it.

But if used effectively, screen capture can be very helpful.  While moving your cursor and other elements on your desktop, you can highlight and speak to whatever is on your desktop.  Powerpoint slides, excel spreadsheet… and there are some amazing tools to do this including many free and inexpensive ones that work very well.

Screen capture software applications range in price and functionality.  For Powerpoint, Office Mix is a free add-on and is pretty seamless for making Powerpoint screencasts.

There are numerous other screencast tools available.  A few include Camtasia (a more powerful and broader set of tools), Snagit and Screencast-o-matic.  However, there are many many more on the market.  For simpler use, Jing is free, but is limited in format to Adobe flash format.

Another option worth exploring may be present.me – it’s a way to present slides and presentations.  There are other similar such tools available as well.
